this day

This day five years ago was the day I knew this guy was special.  We rode to the shop early in the morning, where there was freshly cooked breakfast and mimosas, along with a super fun group of people, all dressed up and ready to party.  We rode across an empty lot, dodging goat-heads and rocks to make it to the New Belgium bike parade, ending at the field across from the brewery.  It was a scorching, hot, dusty day, with bright colors- clowns on unicycles, wigs, capes, plastic, jugglers, dancing people, tents, bikes, bikes, bikes everywhere- but the whole day I followed this guy in a hawaiian shirt and an Indiana Jones hat around on Big Brown (the name of his bike), and I'm happy I did, because we're still going strong today (I mean, duh- we just got married)

Also, this year I was able to realize my fantasy of dressing up as Queen Frostine from Candyland.  I've been obsessed with her since I was little- we used to play Candyland all the time when I was a kid- and today I finally got to dress up like my favorite character (well, one of them... along with LeLu, and Rainbow Brite, and She-Ra, and so on) and ride through my favorite town, with my favorite people, and my new favorite husband.

2009

Such a fun day.  Always.  Tour de Fat.

2014

first roll of film in a while

Here's a few from my first roll of film taken in quite some time.  It was from our wedding week- the first photos on the roll were from our ceremony- they came out like crap, like I knew they would- but it's still super fun to have them!!  The rest were from the first week of being married- we drove to Steamboat the long way through Walden, and made a stop off at Max's old stomping grounds- he used to be a river rafting guide back when he lived in Laramie, with his best friend Chuck.  We saw the put-in and the take-out spots, spent some time in Steamboat with the other Salzburgs, did some fishing, hot pooled, ate a lot, and relaxed.  Exactly what I wanted from our first week of marriage.  It seriously feels like we're still on vacation, now that we're not planning a wedding.  Being married is awesome!

the weight of things

there is a weight to 'things' - and I carry a lot of baggage.  I've been following the guys from The Minimalists for a few months now, and I'm feeling really inspired to GET RID OF ALL MY STUFF.  That's all it is- stuff- junk-crap-weight.  It's weighing me down, and now that I'm married there's an us- and it's weighing us down.  And that's not fair.  It's time to purge.  Hardcore.

First to go: physical photographs that I don't need anymore.  Then, scan in the ones I do want, and make an album of a few special ones.  Holy carp this is going to be rough.

Holy carp!

Holy carp!

silly + close

I'm trying to think about goals for the year- goals for the marriage- goals for my life.  I know when I have my mind set on something I can do it- so now it's just a matter of what I'm being mindful.

one of the only sets of photos I got in on at the reception.  Mr + Mrs!!

presence

Last night we opened all of our presents- read our cards, read our advice notes, giggled at the hilarious ones, teared up over the sweet ones, and loved every single one of them.  I wrapped myself in a Norwegian blanket, we hung art on our walls, and we listened to the wedding dinner mix.  Good music, I must say.  It was our first night alone together after spending a glorious weekend with family and friends; we ate a normal dinner, we took the dog for a walk, and we enjoyed the sunset.

Tonight the guest bedrooms smells just like my aunt's apartment did when I would stay there as a kid.  Her photo was staring back at me from the guest bed where the frame was placed after being on the memorial table at the wedding, along with my grandparents' photos.  I know she would have loved the party.  All of our family together and  celebrating.  Two families becoming one giant family.  Two people starting their life together.  I can feel her presence.  Tonight.

this is the start of our married life

I'm not planning on doing a lot of writing in this blog- but also plans change, so I guess we'll see what happens, yes?

I just wanted to document my first year of married life, so I could look back on the every day events, and share my thoughts and feelings through my photographs.

During our ceremony two days ago Max and I each took a photo of each other, so I will develop those soon, and post them on here as well- but until then these will mostly be dSLR photos, or from my iphone.

I'm trying to post every day, so we'll see how that goes.

Yay for our adventure!
